Sucker Rod Couplings
Sucker Rod Couplings are manufactured from quenched and tempered alloyed steels. API 11B couplings are classified into two classes: Grade T and Grade SM (Spray Metal).

Grade SM coupling has a spray-welded metal layer on the surface. The appearance is silver-white generally, the surface hardness is high, and the wear resistance and corrosion resistance are relatively good.
Compared with Grade T couplings, Grade SM couplings have the following features:
(1) High surface hardness and good wear resistance
According to SY/T 5029-2013, the surface hardness required for Grade T couplings is HRA56~62, and the metal hardness of the spray welding layer of Grade SM couplings is ≥595HV0.2.
(2) The surface finish is high. The surface roughness required for grade T coupling is ≤ 3.2, and that of grade SM coupling is ≤ 1.6

Polished rod coupling is designed to connect polished rod and sucker rod. Sucker rod coupling cannot be used to connect polished rod; polished rod coupling can be used to connect sucker rod.
